Attendance Policy for Online Only Students

The attendance policy for Blended Learning Day Students is the same as in regular school. School begins at 8:30 and ends at 3:30 pm. Most courses are semestered with scheduled assessments and exams. Physical Education and Math are year-long credits at Kanata Academy. There is more flexibility at Kanata Academy than a regular day school because all course content is online. Students may work on coursework when they can’t attend school for such reasons as vacations, sporting events, illness etc. Like online students, the course outline indicates that the course will take 110 hours and highlights the breakdown of each unit.

At Kanata Academy, the online courses do not have schedules or due dates to follow. The courses are run on a continuous intake basis, and students make their schedules. Attendance is not tracked. Students have up to 10 months to complete their courses and have the option to pay for course extensions if needed. The course outline indicates that the course will take 110 hours and highlights the breakdown of each unit. Even though Attendance is not tracked as in a regular school, the teacher and Principal will regularly monitor a student’s progress, logins and participation. Regular login, participation and communication in an online course are mandatory for success.
